Gymnastics is the Best Sport

by Molly, Grade 4

I think gymnastics is the best sport of all time. First, it is super challenging. Second, you make tons of new friends on your gymnastics team. Third, once you get really talented in the sport, you could get paid, and you would have a career.

The first reason why gymnastics is the greatest sport of all time is because it has been scientifically proven that  it’s the hardest sport in the world as well as the most fun (in my opinion). And doesn’t everybody love a challenge? I know I do. And, with gymnastics being the hardest sport in the world, you also can burn the most calories, and you use all of the muscles your body, so you will be very strong.

Secondly, you make lots of new friends on your team (like most sports teams). But in gymnastics you practice for longer than most sports, so you can have a stronger relationship with your teammates. And in the summer you can get together with teammates and go bowling. My point is you can make many new friends in sports. In my opinion, gymnastics is the greatest way to make friends.

And, last but not least, gymnastics can be your career! Once you get very skilled in the sport, you could start getting paid. You would be able to support your family. So, the next time you want to sign up for baseball or tennis, forget those ideas and go sign up for gymnastics instead!

Book Review of Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls

by Emma, Grade 4

Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls is an amazing book about 100 women from around the world. These women from history and modern times changed the world in a variety of ways. Each page of this book tells the story of a different woman’s life. The book includes activists such as Helen Keller, sailors like Jessica Watson, and primatologist Jane Goodall. Also included are scientists like Margaret Hamilton and archeologist Maria Reiche, along with powerful queens and Pharaohs such as Cleopatra and Elizabeth the First, also artists such as Yoko Ono and Misty Copeland, athletes like Serena and Venus Williams, Simone Biles and many more. There are illustrations of each woman by a different artist.

One of the most powerful stories is about Sonita Alizadeh, a rapper from Afghanistan. She was about my age when she found out she was going to be sold into marriage. She did not want to get married and told her parents that she wanted to sing. Her parents told her they needed to buy a bride for her brother and they had to sell her. Fighting started near her home and she did not get married. Instead, she and her family went to a refugee camp in Iran where Sonita started going to school. At 16, her mother informed her again that she had a new husband for her daughter. Sonita wrote a song called “Brides for Sale” and put it onto YouTube. This got her a scholarship to study music in America. Now she is 22 years old and is a rapper. This story, like many others in this book, sets an example for younger girls like me to follow your heart.

In this book, there is a quote from each woman. I’ve learned a lot from them and they are a big part of the book and help it come together. A great quote from this book is, “When a woman decides to change, everything changes around her,” Eufrosina Cruz, an activist and politician from Mexico, said this. I recommend this book for all girls to inspire them to help the world.
