Disbudding by Tiggy Gates

Disbudding is the practice of taking a baby goat and burning its buds off. Buds are little horns that goats have when the 4-10 days old. People do this “because its can hurt you” bla bla bla . All the reasons are excuses, they're scared to tell the truth, its abuse.

Yes, you have to see a baby goat in pain. Many abusers say that it doesn't hurt the goat, they just scream because they're restriction of movement, what person says that burning the top of a baby goat's head off doesn't hurt them.

All goat breeders disbud their goats, it's a fact. Nigerian Dwarf goats are always disbudded. Abusers think it's cute but it isn't. Goat breeders charge more money to disbud. I think that they should charge less, but, it’s their loss.

Horns and buds have blood vessels in them. So it's not just like trimming finger nails. Horns regulate the air temperature, for instance if it is super cold out, the horns will be super warm. They’re not dead, the veins in the horns are special because they are hard. The reason why they would be warm is, they’re working to put all the heat from the horn into the body. Horns can't  get cold, horn is made out of rhinocerotidae, a substance of karinte, like hoof, so it is a bone out of the body, with a cover of keratin. Horned goats have a 31% chance of hypothermia, while disbudded goats have 54% chance of getting hypothermia.

Disbudded goat heads on the top are flat, once the hair grows back. No one wants their goat to get scur, scur is when the horns that were growing are thriving in protein, so when you disbud the horn grows back immediately.

One option that doesn't hurt the goat is anesthesia. Why would you do that if you could have a beautiful goat WITH horns. Torturing a goat with a 6- inch needle is not worth it.

Goats are meant to have horns. If you want one without horns, goats aren't meant for you.
